David Smith, Gleaner Life assist Junction of Hope

Junction of Hope in Chesaning dishes up more than great food. It also serves as a workplace for dozens of Tri County Region adults with special needs, a mission that inspired David Smith of Flushing Township to serve up some help of his own.

Smith was named Gleaner Life Insurance Society’s Fraternal Agent of the Year for 2022, in part for his work with Junction of Hope, America first non-profit 501(c)3 restaurant. Smith decided his $1,000 charitable donation from Gleaner would make a nice bonus for the restaurant.

“They do such a great job at everything from cooking and serving meals to janitorial,” Smith said of Junction of Hope. “They will pick up these adults and take them to and from work. One of our donations one year helped them get a vehicle, and hopefully this donation will help them get a newer one or something else they may need.”

Smith serves as a Certified Retirement Counselor with Complete Wealth Advisors in Flint Township, and lives in the Flushing and Montrose Township area where he grew up and later returned with his wife, Kelley, and their two children.

Smith volunteers with a Gleaner service club he founded, Tri County Arbor located in Montrose. The service club has utilized Junction of Hope for activities including providing lunch for the Montrose teachers during teacher conference days. The Tri County Arbor also has assisted veterans at the VA Saginaw Healthcare System, Special Olympics, the Montrose Senior Center, and numerous youth groups and other charities.

Gleaner Life honored Smith on June 27 at its Conference of Excellence at Napa Valley, California. Smith plans to present Gleaner’s donation at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Junction of Hope.
